My name is Asya Adil, the founder of Malachite Seal and resident of the Denver Metro area since 1989 -- nice to e-meet you. I identify as a cisgender, light-skin-able-body, straight woman who strives to live by the values of Intersectional Feminism.
I was born to a Muslim Turkic family stifled under communistic regime of the Eastern Block but this Blue Bird state has been home since I immigrated to the US on a political refugee green card in 1989. I was nine years old then, and my mother and I were running from islamophobia, sexism, racism, classism and poverty, towards dreams of wealth, equality and cultural freedom. When we arrived, we started with two suitcases each and would cycle though hidden homelessness as we assimilated to life in the United States.
